In Pokémon, HM's (or, hidden moves) are special attacks that have applications in the real world as well. The HM move Waterfall, for example, allows you to travel up waterfalls while you are walking, and it is also a decent attack move for your Pokémon. Unlike the HM moves Strength, Surf, and Fly, you will not be given Waterfall automatically, meaning it's up to your to find it.[1]

Steps

  1. Get the HM Surf. You need to be able to use surf in order to find Waterfall. Surf is a move that allows you to ride the back of a Pokémon over water tiles in the game, letting your explore the oceans. To get Surf in Pokémon Black by:
    • Getting your Jet Badge, won by defeating the gym leader in Mistralton City.
    • Defeating your rival, Cheren, at the entrance to Twist Mountain.
    • Talking to Alder at Twist Mountain, who will then give you HM Surf.
  2. Go to Route 1. Waterfall is on a series of cliffs across the ocean from Route 1. Head over with a Pokémon who knows Surf.[2]
  3. Use surf on the small beach to the left of Route 1. It is on the southern end of the Route, near your starting town and a patch of wild grass.
  4. Follow the ocean southwest, getting off just under the row of impassible rocks. You'll reach land again, where there are two trainers and some wild grass. Follow the road to the south-west (down and left) until you hit a tunnel.[3]
  5. Head through the tunnel to Route 18. You'll reach another ocean. Use surf to hop in again.
  6. Surf to the landmass with large staircases on the far left side of the map. You'll run into some trainers and some Pokémon on the way, but nothing insanely difficult. Eventually, you'll reach a large landmass with giant staircases. Head up them to continue your journey.
  7. Keep moving left (west) until you find a thin cliff, covered in tall grass. On the farthest left portion of the area is a high bluff, only 1-square across, covered in high grass. HM Waterfall is at the southernmost tip of it.[4]

Tips

  • Using a Max Repel will keep you from fighting the weak Pokémon on the way, if you are in a hurry.
