The vintage look is a great editing technique you'll see used in a lot of popular photos on the internet. Thing is, it's really easy to make your photos look vintage and it takes no more than 10 minutes. All you'll need is the editing program Picnik (which is free) and a bit of patience, also the program paint and a nice photo! Let's get started!

Steps

  1. Go to Picnik.com or connect using Facebook, then go the the Picnik app.
  2. Upload your photo or select one from your Facebook library.
  3. Take a snapshot of your photo with a bit of a rim so that when the "Premium Feature" banner comes up, you'll be able to remove it by taking another snapshot (this part will be done later).
  4. Edit anything you want beforehand. (Exposure, Sharpness, etc.)
  5. Go to 'Create' section and click on 'Effects'. Find 'Cross Process'. Then use the fade bar to choose how strong you want the effect to be.
  6. Go to "Advanced" in the "Create" section of Picnik.
    • Click on 'Presets' and choose Polaroid.
  7. To get your desired result, which is a nice looking vintage photo, you may need to play around a little bit with the Color override and fade bars to get the photo how you want.
  8. Take a snapshot of the original photo without the rim. If you're on Windows, you'll need to go on paint and do what you need to do so that it's just the photo.

Tips

  • How to place the lines are simply guidelines. (Sometimes I like to add more green to the shadows or other things like that.)
  • Try to use photos with a sky or something bright, and unlike the photo shown, brighter photos look nicer because there's more color.
  • Try not to use other effects after you've turned your photo into a vintage photo because the effects tend to clash.
