Rice Krispies® can also sometimes called chocolate Rice Krispies "cups." They're miniature sized buns that are so simple to make that they're often one of the first baked treats children learn to make. When hunger strikes, take just a few minutes to whip up some Rice Krispies buns to satisfy your sweet tooth with ease.

Ingredients

  • Rice Krispies® cereal (or other puffed cereal), a minimum of 100g/3½ oz is recommended)
  • Sweetened cooking (milk) chocolate (the amount needed depends on how much Rice Krispies you add - factor around 100g/3½ oz Rice Krispies or other puffed cereal needing 75g/3 oz chocolate)
  • White/brown sugar (optional)

Steps

  1. Break the chocolate into small squares. Carefully melt the chocolate squares over a bowl of hot water in a double boiler. Or, you can melt chocolate in the microwave if you prefer.
  2. Add the Rice Krispies to the melted chocolate. Carefully stir until the Rice Krispies are completely covered in chocolate.

  3. Spoon the chocolate Rice Krispies mixture into the bun or cupcake cases.
  4. Leave the crispy cereal buns to cool. Then place the buns in the refrigerator to chill. Once they've set, they're ready to enjoy.

Alternative Presentation

  1. Make into squares. If you don't have the bun cases or cupcake liners, then you can spread the mixture into a lightly oiled or buttered biscuit tin or rectangular cake pan to cool. Simply cut into evenly sized brownie squares when baked.
    • You could spread the mixture evenly onto waxed paper or onto aluminum foil. Some people like to cover a sheet of corrugated cardboard with foil so they can leave the "board" at a friend's house.

Tips

  • Rice Krispies are often referred to as Rice Bubbles in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Adding vegetable fat will hold the buns together more firmly. Count on about 150g/5 oz of butter or similar fat per 100g/3½ oz of Rice Krispies or other puffed cereal.

You may also use marshmallows instead of chocolate

  • Add a little bit of sugar to sweeten the buns.

Warnings

  • Use appropriate care when melting the chocolate; if it burns, toss it out as it will be inedible.
