Sometimes a re-visit to the salon is the luxurious, professional option, but if you're running low on time or money, here's how you can keep your grown out acrylics in good condition!

Steps

  1. Re-do your nails.
  2. Carefully remove the nail polish with non-acetone nail polish remover (it must be acetone free, as acetone is the product used to remove acrylics because it dissolves plastic) if you got your acrylics painted in the salon. Use one nail-polish-remover-soaked cotton ball per nail until all the colour is gone.
  3. File down the bumps and even out the height between your natural nail and the acrylic nail using a nail file. You know they're even when you can run a finger along the nail without feeling a bump/join where the acrylic starts.
  4. Use a nail buffer to buff where you filed to make sure everything is smooth and ready for painting.
  5. Pick a nail polish and paint away!

Tips

  • Sometimes longer nails are prone to lifting or even snapping more easily, so it can be a good idea to file them down to a more manageable size.
  • It's always best to apply a top coat (Barry M does a 'Gelly' top coat, which leaves the high shine of gel nails and lasts really well)
  • It's recommended by nail technicians to leave your nail polish to dry for 10 minutes to insure a flawless shine!
