Mobogenie has some potentially unwanted programs like OpenCandy, Quick Downloader, Conduit, and various other monetization programs to bundle with third party installers. It can transfer pictures and can be used for downloading various apps, but it can also hijack your browser or perform other hostile operations on your computer. If you want to remove the program from your Windows computer, here's how.

Steps

Uninstalling Mobogenie

  1. Click on the Start button, then click on Control Panel. If you are using Windows 8, simply drag your mouse pointer to the right edge of the screen, select Search from the list and search for “control panel,” or you can right-click on a bottom left hot corner (formerly known as the Start button) and select Control Panel from there.
  2. From the Control Panel, click on Uninstall a Program. This can be found under the Programs category. For Windows XP users, click on "Add or remove program option".
  3. Scroll down and choose Mobogenie and any other unknown programs.  Look for recently installed programs which you don't recognize, and uninstall them. To view the most recently installed programs, you can click on the “Installed On” column to sort your programs by the installation date.
  4. Use an uninstaller app if you're having problems. If the uninstallation isn't working, you can use Revo Uninstaller or a similar tool to completely remove the unwanted programs from your machine.

Removing Mobogenie adware program

  1. Download AdwCleaner. The AdwCleaner utility will scan your computer and web browser for the Mobogenie malicious files, browser extensions and registry keys, that may have been installed on your computer without your knowledge.
  2. After installing AdwCleaner close all running programs including your browsers and applications. Don't minimize them, just close them.
  3. Run AdwCleaner. When the program starts, click on the Scan button to find the Mobogenie virus. AdwCleaner will now start to search for the Mobogenie malicious files that may be installed on your computer.
  4. Clean the files which are detected after the scan. Click on the Clean button to perform this action.
  5. Allow AdwCleaner to reboot your computer. After removing the Mobogenie virus with AdwCleaner, it will prompt you to save any open files or documents, as the program will need to reboot the computer. Please do so and then click on the OK button to complete the process.

Removing Mobogenie browser hijacker

  1. Use a tool like the Junkware Removal Tool. This tool is great for removing the Mobogenie browser hijacker, which is a harmful program that hijacks your browser. Download the Junkware removal tool for removing the Browser Hijacker.
  2. Run the Junkware Removal Tool. Once it has finished downloading, double-click on the JRT.exe icon to run the program. Allow it to run, whether Windows prompts you to run it or not.
  3. Follow the program's prompts. The Junkware Removal Tool will now start. At the Command Prompt, you’ll need to press any key to perform a scan for the Mobogenie virus. Be patient while it is scanning. It can take up to 10 minutes.
  4. Confirm the results of the scan. When the scan of Junkware Removal Tool is completed, this utility will display a log with the malicious files and registry keys that were removed from your computer. No need to do anything now; the browser hijacker should be removed.

Remove additional Mobogenie viruses

  1. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove all viruses. It can remove all worms, Trojans, rootkits, rogues, dialers, spyware, and more. Note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without any conflicts.
  2. Install the Anti-Malware program. Once downloaded, close all programs and click on the icon on your desktop named mbam-setup-consumer-2.00.xx to start installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
  3. Respond to all prompts to complete the installation. You may be presented with a User Account Control dialog asking you to run this file. Click “Yes” to continue with the installation. During the installation, the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation process.
    • Keep selecting yes on your device to complete the installation.
  4. Run the program. After installing, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program, and that a scan has never been run on your system. So now to start a system scan you can click on the “Fix Now” button.
  5. Click on the scan tab > Threat Scan > Scan Now, to scan the viruses. If possible click on the update now button to update it.
  6. Remove all malicious programs. After completing the scan, you will see a screen showing you the malware infections that Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware has detected. To remove the malicious programs that Malwarebytes Anti-malware has found, choose to Quarantine All or delete all programs, and then click on the “Apply Now” button to perform that action.
  7. Reboot your system now. Do this so that no viruses remains active.
  8. Double check the virus removal. After rebooting you will see a message to scan again your device. Allow it to scan to ensure that there are no remaining threats.

Checking all viruses with Hitmanpro

  1. Download Hitmanpro to double check the removal of your viruses. This tool scans viruses to notify you about the viruses that are left after scan. Download it.
  2. After downloading click on  the file named “HitmanPro.exe” (for 32-bit versions of Windows) or “HitmanPro_x64.exe” (for 64-bit versions of Windows).
  3. Click next to install Hitmanpro on your computer. HitmanPro will now begin to scan your computer for Mobogenie malicious files.
  4. Remove any viruses you find. After the scan you will be shown the list of remaining viruses. Click Next to remove Mobogenie virus.
  5. Complete the removal. Click on the “Activate free license” button to begin the free 30 days trial, and remove all the malicious files from your computer. After cleaning, reboot your system and the Mobogenie viruses are now cleaned.

Tips

  • Be patient while scanning.
  • Uninstall the Mobogenie app from your Android phone through any package uninstaller. However, note that Mobogenie is only dangerous to a PC, so you don't have to remove it from your mobile.
