Watermelon slices can be shaped like donuts in a unique twist on both donuts and watermelon serving ideas. When the crowd is calling for something delicious, they'll be pleasantly surprised by a refreshing and cold "donut" choice!

Ingredients

  • Watermelon, seedless
  • Sour cream or tofu version of sour cream
  • Sugar to taste (or stevia or other sweetener if preferred)
  • Vanilla extract/essence to taste
  • Slivered almonds; some toasted for top layer of the "donuts"

Steps

  1. Cut out donut shapes from seedless watermelon. Make 1 1/2-inch (3cm) thick round slices of watermelon with a hole shape cut from the middle part.
  2. Sweeten the sour cream by stirring in the sugar. To lighten it even more, add a touch of Make a Vanilla Scent Using Extract (essence) to taste.
  3. Frost half of each watermelon donut slice. Then sprinkle this slice with the slivered almonds.
  4. Add another layer of a watermelon donut slice to the first slice. Again, top this with the sweetened sour cream.
  5. Sprinkle the top layer with toasted slivered almonds.
  6. Serve.

Tips

  • Vanilla yogurt could also be used instead of sour cream.
  • Dip each melon in melted chocolate, refrigerate, and you have a chocolate covered watermelon donut. Too more-ish!
  • For one variation, try adding chocolate pudding on one side, and cover with the watermelon for a delicious treat for chocolate lovers.
  • Mix strawberries and sour cream, and add that between the donuts.
  • Note that the center fruit doesn't have to be a watermelon – other forms of fruit such as pineapple, kiwifruit, etc., could also be used.

Warnings

  • If you're allergic to nuts, skip the almonds and perhaps use sprinkles, chocolate pecans, or some other sweet and safe ingredient.

Things You'll Need

  • Sharp knife for cutting the watermelon slices
  • Mixing bowl and mixing implement
  • Butter knife for spreading the topping
  • Serving platter
