Are you horrified at the thought of makeup? Not every girl wants to be glamorous. Sometimes she just wants to enjoy things society says is for men only. Kudos! You can step outside the box and be a tomboy by getting into the right activities and cultivating a certain attitude.

Steps

Being A Tomboy

  1. Be physically strong. Work out a lot, and when you do so put your best effort into it. Boys usually want to get muscular, so use the weights more than gymnastics. Do a higher weight than you would normally use, but don't hurt yourself. Don't worry about how you look during the gym, that is more for girly girls. Just stand, and be focused on the weights. Also, it would be best if you were with a couple of friends (or 'bros' as boys call it) who are boys.
  2. Be mentally muscular. If somebody is bullying you, shrug and say 'Whatever," while walking away. That will make it sound like the insults didn't hurt you, and that you are standing up for yourself. Occasionally, be a bit stubborn and insist on what you believe in. Do your best in your classes, and flaunt your A's to the rest of the world. Don't tell people your studying secrets, just let them know you are a star student.
  3. Have guy friends. Don't let them see you as a sissy or a sexual item. Show them you act like them, and ask them to 'hang out'. If they decline your offer, shrug, and walk away. Five minutes later, try again with another boy. If not, you can go to the gym, or other boyish places to find guys or tomboys like you. Your friends can also be the occasional girly girl, but try and stick to guys as they build your reputation higher.
  4. Be brave. Many boys are braver than girly girls. If there is a wiggly creepy-crawly, offer to take it out. Your friends will be impressed, or at least see you as strong. Try and conquer your fears. Some can be kept, depending on age. If you are afraid of your family dying, fine. If you are 12 and sleep with your stuffed animals, try and sleep alone gradually. Remember to do it for the better, don't get rid of vital fears that let you live, but the obnoxious ones you struggle with.
  5. Think straight. Many new tomboys make the mistake of thinking poetically. When writing, just say it how it is, no difference. When talking, don't go into details. Just say what was on your mind, and make it clear. Another thing is to be honest, unless it can majorly hurt somebody. If not, try and say things like they are. If a friend asks you something, don't lie. Just tell them what you think. This comes with thinking straight, as you need to see the clear thoughts.
  6. Get active. Boys like to run around a lot. Run and don't mind the mud. Boys love getting a little muddy. If you are dirty, make sure to wash when you get home, as you do not want to ruin your kitchen, that will give you double chores! Instead, shower, and go home to do what you want; from video games to a book. Try taking classes like football, soccer, basketball, or a gym course! Make the most of your time there, and try and be the best. If not, don't cry.
  7. Read literature for boys. Mainly, read books that have jokes, but aren't just stupid. Try reading 'Horrible Science', the history of cars or war, 'Holes' by Louis Sachar, 'Maniac Magee', 'Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life', or 'Diary of A Wimpy Kid' for lots of entertainment. Recommend them to your friends, and make sure they appreciate the book before recommending it to others.
  8. Don't worry about clothes. Try and wear hoodies in red, black, or blue and some plain sweats. Try and look presentable, though. Just go with the above, and don't worry about a minor smudge, or a tiny rip in your pocket. If your bra shows, don't make a big deal about it. Just laugh and arrange your shirt. Don't look like you did it on purpose, though.
  9. Relax. Boys usually don't worry about as much as girls do. For a formal feast, dress in a plain dress in a neutral colour, maybe even a pair of pants and a formal tee. Try and act as though clothes aren't your thing, as boys don't stress about those. If you are not accepted in a gang, that is fine. Start your own gang, or hang out somewhere else. Just live your life with lots of fun as a boy!

Being A Guy (as a Girl)

  1. Don't be afraid of gore. Guys usually like blood, so try and get used to it. Watch appropriate horror movies, and read thrilling books. Try and know some 'disgusting' facts, and show them off. Guys like a moderately gross sense of humour, so know some jokes and you will be accepted as one of them. Also, it is best if you don't squint, as that looks cowardly, and guys are strong.
  2. Wear simple yet 'cool' clothes. Caps or backwards caps are good, and try some T-Shirts with printing or pictures on them. Guys usually go for red, oranges, and yellows, so do that. Also, don't overdo the accessories. Try some baggy items, and avoid looking too sexy/girlish. You can still be sexy in a 'boyish' way if you do it right. You don't have to cut your hair, but try having boyish hairstyles like messy ponytails or just a frizz of hair left out.
  3. Avoid chores. True guys don't like chores, and neither should you! Try and get out of those chores, as you have better things to do. Try and negotiate, or get your parents to do it. If it means not being able to buy candy for a certain amount of time, fine. Just do your best to not do those, and you will have plenty of time to get to the next level on your video game.
  4. Play pranks. Many guys love to play pranks. Make sure everybody is fine with them, and that it is seen as a harmless joke. Just try and be funny, and get the guys on your side. Make sure that it is not bullying, and do them on many people. Laugh about it, but get over it. Also, try and seem as though it was easy to prank, even if it wasn't. Guys like a chill tomboy to hang out with.
  5. Like fast food. Don't eat it every day, although have a preference for them. Like spicy toppings on pizzas or burgers, and experiment with different things. Like things such as pepperoni and prawn, although the occasional cheese pizza is fine. If you don't like something, try it and don't eat it again, even if you used to hate it. Try and understand why people like things.
  6. Play guns. It is more fun than it looks, especially if you run around. Make sure to hit as many as you can! Don't hide in a corner during every match, and try and attack as much as you defend!
  7. Joke around. Whether it is potty humour, literature, immature, gory, silly or logic, just laugh about it and explain the joke. From math to dung, guys just want something to laugh at. Sound confident while joke-telling. Don't sound lazy, though! However, do not look nervous, but act as though you are calm and cool, and everybody will appreciate the lack of awkwardness. Dirty/perverted jokes are almost always a sure thing! But you CAN overdo it, which might make you into a sexual thing again, if all you seem to talk about is sex/sexual stuff.
  8. Have a lot of fun! Live life like there is no tomorrow, and show it off. Do what you want to do, and if you get a bad grade or your friends ditch you, move on! Try and do the most in life! Achieve what you want, and make friends, but it isn't worth it to be somebody you aren't! You will regret it. So enjoy life as a guy, but understand you will have to come back to yourself as a grown-up or earlier.

Tips

  • Be yourself. Know what you want.
  • Make sure to act confident and have swagger.
  • Don't be afraid of being a tomboy. Being "pretty" and feminine isn't the rent you pay to exist in this world as a woman.
  • Looking like a tomboy and being a tomboy are quite different. Know what you want to be.
  • "Tomboy" is not synonymous with "butch". "Butch" is a lesbian-only term and shouldn't be used by non-lesbians.
  • Don't try and be anyone else, be yourself and make your own choices, you can do it yourself.
  • If you're not into pink and sparkles, try wearing camouflage or black. Try mixing them together, too!
  • Be your own kind of beautiful. You don't need people telling you what to look like. And just because you are a girl doesn't mean you like pink. Whether you have pimples, any acne, hate your smile, or hate your laugh. Just whatever. This is you life... Enjoy it.
  • Don't worry about having to go full tomboy to be one. If you're a tomboy but you like makeup or have a girly friend, that's fine. Just be yourself. As long as you don't harm anyone, you can do what you want. Don't let society dictate you what to do, as styles change all the time and are actively manipulated by the media.
  • You don't have to be obsessed with clothes. Wearing a shirt, shorts or sweatpants, and some sneakers is perfectly fine.
  • Sometimes a tomboy might be stereotyped as a rude, rebellious tomboy. Not all tomboys are rude and disobedient. Try showing an act of kindness, respect, and obey other people. This will make you a likable tomboy.
  • Tomboys are usually annoyed by girly girls or girly things. Try to avoid girlish stuff or people.
