Do you hate waking up early? Most of us do. But we still have to do it, and most of us want to get ready in the shortest amount of time possible. This article will help you get out of the bed and out the door quicker while being efficient.

Steps

  1. Make your lunch the night before and place it in your lunch bag. Place the lunch bag inside the fridge to be taken out when you open the fridge for breakfast, then place it beside the backpack by the door before you eat breakfast. If you buy lunch, make sure you have lunch money!
  2. Place any items (homework, notebooks, etc.) which need to go to school inside your backpack or school bag before you go to bed.
  3. Set out breakfast snacks to grab and eat on the way to school. This is in case you run short of time to eat a full breakfast. Some good choices are granola, yogurt, and flavored oatmeal.
    • On your way up to your bedroom, place your backpack/schoolbag by the door you normally exit through.
  4. Prepare as much as you can the night before. Lay out the clothes you want to wear the next day before you go to sleep. If your school has a uniform, make sure it is clean and well-pressed.
    • Also take a shower at night before bed and brush your hair. You may put it in a bun or however you like then when you wake up put on styling creams/hairsprays and decorate your hair.
  5. Get to bed on time. Try to get 8-10 hours of sleep on school nights.Set your alarm clock for the best time that you think will wake you up for school. For example, 6:30 is mostly good for many people.
  6. Wake up on time. Set an alarm or have your parents wake you up. Most cell phones have alarms, so if you hate the sound of your alarm clock, that's better. It will make you want to stand up and turn the alarm off. Don't go back to sleep after the alarm!
  7. Wash your face. Splashing some cold water on your face first thing in the morning may seem horrible, but is very refreshing once you get used to it. Gently clean your face with a warm washcloth and some face wash.
  8. Put school clothes on and don't forget deodorant and if you would like, perfume or some type of body spray.
  9. Get books, lunch, and any other things needed for school ready while waiting for any irons, straighteners, etc., to warm up. If there are 2 people, the person getting their hair done can eat breakfast while the other person is doing your hair. When your hair is done, you can switch.
  10. Arrange your hair in the simplest method that looks decent. Brush your hair and style as you see fit. For girls: Slick your hair into a high pony. Or, you could decide to leave it down and put in smoothing cream, curling mousse, or whatever you need. For guys: Wet your hair and brush/comb it, or put gel in it.
  11. Put on any makeup if needed. Prioritize - do the hard stuff first, such as putting on eyeliner and eye-shadow. Easier stuff such as lip gloss and cover up can wait until you get on the bus or in the car. And remember, wear as much or as little makeup as you want.
  12. Eat a breakfast that won't leave you starving until lunch (See Tips for getting breakfast ready). And you can also bring your lunch with you to school if you don't have time to eat.
  13. Brush your teeth, and head for the door.

Tips

  • You may want to keep a handy bag inside your backpack with things in it like hand sanitizer, lip balm, hair grips, hair bands and things like that. You may even want to keep a deodorant inside your backpack as well.
  • Avoid electronics when you're trying to get ready for the day, as they will distract you and take up your time.
  • Bring a water bottle with you on your way to the bus stop or in the car and drink often.
  • Don't skip breakfast in the morning! It may save time, but it is not healthy.
  • Don't leave homework until the morning.
  • If you have trouble waking up, set your alarm earlier than usual.
  • You may want to make a checklist to make sure you have everything you need for school.
  • If you are running short on time, grab the breakfast snacks you set out the night before to munch on on your way to school. Carry mints or gum with you and drink some water to get rid of any bad breath.
  • Get some pumping, sing-a-long music going when you wake up! Hit play on iTunes, or whip out those old headphones, and hum or sing along with your favorite song while getting ready. It really lifts your spirits.
  • If you have glasses, clean them the night before so they will be clean and ready for that day.
  • Try to form a routine that best suits you so you're quicker getting ready and know what to do.
  • Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day to avoid insomnia.
  • Don't brush your teeth before breakfast, this will just make your breath smell bad after breakfast, and make your breakfast taste weird. Make sure you brush them afterward so there isn't food in your teeth or a bad smell in your mouth.
  • If you usually shower in the morning, do it quickly.
  • Running through your house/apartment can speed up the time it takes you to get ready, and it can wake you up, too.
  • Eat breakfast and brush your teeth before anything else, you might not have time to brush your teeth if you do it last and you will get to school with smelly breath.
  • Do not call or text anyone unless it is an emergency.
  • You may want to put any extra makeup that you will need in your backpack.
  • Try to get a shampoo and conditioner 2-in-1 to shorten showering time. It saves money, and it saves time in the shower. Just remember that this may not be the best hair care method for your hair.
  • Put your alarm clock far away from where you sleep so when you wake up you will have to get up to turn it off.
  • Get everything ready the night before (clothes, lunch, backpack, shoes, etc.) because it saves a lot of time in the mornings.
  • Your body has a built-in alarm clock. If you wake up early for a few days by using an alarm clock, you should be able to naturally wake up early.
  • If you want to wake up on time, use an alarm clock that you hate the sound of, and put it across the room. This will make you want to get up and turn it off rather than rolling over and falling back asleep.
  • Don't procrastinate in the morning because it will affect how much time you have to get changed.
  • If you get the bus to school (and it's a long ride), do your makeup then to avoid wasting time.
  • If you don't have time to eat, plan ahead and make a breakfast that you can eat in he car, on the bus, while you walk, etc.

Warnings

  • Do not rush so fast that you forget something.
  • Forgetting your homework and materials is the worst thing you can do. Place them in your school bag by the door before going to bed.
  • Never put eye makeup on in the car, or on the bus.
  • Running late is not an excuse for not eating breakfast!
  • Don't take things from other kids.

Things You'll Need

  • School materials
  • Easy breakfast items: pre-packaged biscuits, toaster pastries, granola bars, etc. are always good.
  • Water bottle
