Make Tempeh Bacon

Want to go vegetarian but feel like you can't give up bacon? Here's healthy and yummy way to satisfy your carnivorous cravings while staying meat free! The following recipe will serve two.

Ingredients

  • Litelife organic tempeh (or other suitable brand)
  • Organic tamari sauce
  • Hot sauce or liquid smoke
  • Olive oil

Steps

  1. Cut the tempeh in {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} strips.
  2. Combine 2 Tbsp. hot sauce or liquid smoke and 4 tbsp. organic tamari sauce in a shallow dish.
  3. Place cut tempeh strips in marinade, flip strips over once, and let stand for 2-5 minutes. Tempeh will absorb most of the marinade.
  4. Heat skillet with {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. olive oil or vegetable oil on med high.
  5. Place marinated tempeh in skillet and reduce heat to med low.
  6. Brown tempeh for about 3 minutes on each side.
  7. Enjoy with eggs and toast (or how about going vegan and enjoying it with tofu scrambles?

Tips

  • If you are trying to avoid fried foods, you may add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. olive oil to marinade and bake tempeh in the toaster oven on 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Warnings

  • Don't let the oil get too hot before you put the tempeh in the skillet or the oil may pop and burn- much like bacon grease will if it is too hot.
