Do you need a new computer, but you don't have any money or a job? Well try this guide out for size.

Steps

  1. Figure out why your parents don't want you to get a new computer. Is it the price? The dirty socks you leave on your bedroom floor? Forgetting to walk your poodle? Maybe you don't need one yet? Maybe if you talk with your parents, you'll realize why you never get one. Try to then shape up your attitude and do Have Fun Whilst Doing Your Chores around the house. Do not throw a fit if they say no. Accept their answer but keep being good. Then they will see you are doing this work because you care, not just for a computer.
  2. Make a list of reasons why you want a new computer, and don't use excuses like, "But everybody in the school has one!" or "Because I need one!" No parents care about these excuses. Some examples are, "I have to stay up really late to do my homework because the computer loads too slow for me. For example, on Thursday night I had to skip dinner because I was busy working on my school project."
  3. Don't Be Less Whiny or Keep from Crying. That just shows your parents that you are weak and have no inner confidence to stand up for your rights. Instead, if you are really angry, go attack your pillow. Then, come back and think about what just happened.
  4. Show off your busy life. If you accept all the invitations your friends give you to go downtown and have some lunch, or have a lemonade stand, then say no every now and then. Show your parents you are not desperate to get out of the house. Then they will think you don't need a computer because your friends can occupy all your time.
  5. Consider if price is an issue. If the problem is the money, you really need to go to the computer shop and check out some of the computers. Once you find a cheap but good quality computer, tell your parents that you will chip in your future allowances away to pay for half of the computer. Show them that you are not spoiled and you are actually going to work for this computer and pay some of it. Or pay it off by doing housework. A computer's worth it! There are many deal websites that sell $1300 computers for around $800 - $600.
  6. Find a used one online. In fact, used Macs are a bit cheaper than new PCs. And used PCs are even cheaper. Not only that, but it's a bit more eco-friendly.
  7. If you know a lot about technology, you'll know that there might be new software and hardware coming out. Try to take advantage of that. Like a lot of people, even if you don't know about a lot of technology, you could always just go to a Have Fun at the Library (for Kids and Teens), or go to a public computer and learn a bit more about computers before you even get one. You may not know whether it will last you.
  8. Show that you can do more on a new computer (like making movies.) When you ask for a new computer, don't expect to get one for a year; then you can say "I have waited a long time for one."
  9. Ask to help pay with the new computer. You may want some other toy that you were saving up for. But you probably would like a new computer than a new toy that you will outgrow. You can save up again for that toy.

Tips

  • Be polite and listen to what your parents have to say, they are human, too!
  • An alternative: If you are computer hardware savvy, consider building your own computer. This is good if you want to completely customize your computer. (Warning: No warranty on computer, but the component parts usually have a warranty)
  • Tell your parents about the benefits of getting a computer, such as, Dad, you can finally get your office work done on time with this super fast computer!.
  • Sacrifice some things that will prove you are taking risks(for example, make a promise you can keep like if you keep playing video games and your parents tell you to stop, promise not to play for a week).
  • Research new terms, then explain this to them. You will sound smart and your parents will think you really may deserve one.
  • If the answer is no, the answer is no, and any unspoiled person would learn to accept and forget. Don't pester your parents. They give you food and shelter. Be grateful. At least you have a computer. Some people don't have one book or a doll. Wait until you actually need one (a.k.a your computer crashed.) ask for a new computer for your birthday. It can't be more than a year away.
  • You can always go to friends houses and play on their computers.
  • Sound persuasive, think of reasons that it may improve your grade in school or help you become a better person. It may sound cheesy but it works.

Warnings

  • Don't throw any temper tantrums.
  • You may be caused some pain or anger. Be strong.

Things You'll Need

  • Parents
  • An old PC (Optional)
  • Determination
  • A good priced new computer (look in a magazine or on the computer that you currently own)
