This article will show you how to get started on Minecraft Pocket Edition. It covers basic controls, mode selection, and other things you need to know to get started on Pocket Edition.

Steps

  1. Buy the game. The game of Minecraft is around 4.50 pounds or $6.99 on the Android Market and App store. There is also a free version (demo) where you can add blocks, make houses, kill zombies just like the full version. However, for the most complete and up-to-date experience, you'll ultimately want to choose the full version. If you can not get to the app store or the Android Market there should be a link somewhere on the internet.
  2. Make a World. To make the world go into the Game and click Play. Then you press New in the top right corner of the screen. You can enter a seed if you know one. There are also 2 modes:
    • Use Survival Mode. Survival mode is where you can kill monsters and make a house. In this mode you can collect your own items and get hurt and die.
    • Try the Creative Mode. In this mode you can create anything with unlimited blocks and items. Monsters are not available in this mode unless you spawn them; you can also fly in it. This is the best mode if you want to start a project. The only way to die is to go under the world (breaking the bedrock).
  3. Get used to the controls. Jumping (middle button), Left (left button), Right (right button), Forward (top button), Backwards (bottom button),Sneak (Double Tap far right button.) Fly (creative mode: Double tap on the jump button to start flying. To go higher, hold the jump button down and tap on the move forward button.), Smashing blocks (Hold down on the object you want to break) Hurting mobs (Tap on a mob). The controls will not change on any device.
  4. Start crafting. Get a crafting table and start crafting weapons, blocks, tools etc. Crafting tables are crafted with 4 wooden planks taken from trees and crafted into wooden planks.
  5. Make a House. To make a house you will need to find a spot that you like. You can find out about the blocks for your house in the tips. There are many different ways to make your house, and many blocks can be used to design one. It's best to make a shelter on your first night. You can build a dirt, wood or stone hut, or you can burrow into a mountain or hill. You could also just dig a hole in the ground.
  6. Heat up your furnace and get smelting. To smelt you will need to craft a furnace from crafting table, the items needed are 8 cobblestone which you can get by mining stone with a pickaxe. No other tool will work, if you do try it it will be slow and you will not be able to collect anything.
  7. Mine. To mine, you need to have the right equipment: At least one pickaxe (wood, stone, iron or diamond) and torches. If you want to be really prepared, take a pickaxe, shovel, 2 buckets, at least 32 cobblestone, some food and a sword. To mine you need to make steps down underground; you can find gold ore, diamonds, iron ore, coal, redstone, emeralds, and lapis lazuli. You can mine by making long steps down, but NEVER DIG STRAIGHT DOWN.
  8. Prepare for the night. You should remember that most monsters can't climb so crafting ladders and climbing a tall tree is a good strategy. When night comes you need to have your sword built and ready to fight the monsters that appear. A good starting sword is probably a stone sword. Diamond swords are the easiest way to kill any monster.
  9. Create Projects. Now you have got used to crafting, smelting, and the controls you now have enough experience to create projects. Try starting with stone. You can create anything from a spaceship to a floating mansion. Tips

  • Another cool seed is: 1486771999. You start out an an awesome island!
  • Monsters do not get hurt in water, except for Endermen
  • Try roaming around. If you're lucky enough, you may find a village.
  • Building a house in the morning is better than building a house at midnight.
  • Your first objective should be to build a bed.
  • Keep an extra pickaxe in case you break yours when you're deep mining.
  • Monsters drop valuable items, such as string and bones.
  • At night always have armor on because it will be harder for the monsters to kill you.
  • You should always get wood after starting a new world.
  • in recent updates, you can fall through the world without dying in creative.
  • Don't look at endermen. They will attack you.
  • A good seed is empire. It will spawn you at an island with sand. If you explore a bit you will find a double dessert temple.
  • Torches are crafted with sticks and coal to light up your house.
  • If two people take an item out of a chest at the same time, it duplicates! Great for iron, tools, diamonds, stone, and planks.
  • Make sure you're using the right tool for the job. For example: A pickaxe is best used to mine, an axe is best used for chopping wood, and shovel used for digging up dirt.
  • Sand can be used in a crafting table (TNT), a stonecutter (sandstone), and a furnace (glass)!
  • Keep chests in your rooms so you have a place to put items when your inventory gets too full.
  • If you have a lot of wooden planks and cobblestone, make a three story house in case creepers come and blow up your house so that you won't lose all your items (keep chests on top story).
  • Only eat Rotten Flesh as an alternate/worst case scenario food. Rotten flesh can cause the hunger effect (making you more, rather than less, hungry.)
  • You cannot hit Endermen with arrows. If you can, you have an awesome glitch.
  • If you want lava-falls, over-hangs, and waterfalls a good seed is Nyan.
  • Try to study what weapons have the best health and if you attack Multiplayer PvP, try to know when is best to attack or back away.
  • Use wood: It's the key to the game.
  • Always have a weapon ready at night just in case.
  • Try to build your house close to the spawn site to avoid getting lost when you die.
  • Killing Monsters can be hard; it may take more than one hit to kill them.
  • If you just like catching animals and gathering your own items, click options at start menu and change to peaceful.
  • TNT can blow up buildings.
  • At the moment Endermen don't drop anything
  • Not only does flint and steel light TNT, but it can also start fires after the 0.7.0 update, so be careful!
  • Creepers can be ignited with flint and steel.
  • Beds are made out of 3 wool and 3 wooden planks.
  • Ores such as gold and diamond can only be found if you dig deep underground. Gold may be found below layer 30, and diamonds may be found below level 14.
  • If you place torches around your house, it should keep most (but not all) creatures away, and stop monsters from spawning.
  • Houses can only go up as high as the clouds.
  • When mining, remember to place torches to keep your path lit and monsters from spawning.
  • You can find out how to start an MC Adventure Start Your Adventure on Minecraft

Warnings

  • Creepers can be attacked with a bow and arrow; attacking with your fist isn't the best idea, as they can and will explode. Or, attack and then immediately back away, then repeat.
  • Skeletons have bows and arrows, so it is best to attack likewise (with a bow).
  • Spiders are not scared of sunlight, and are still out during the day. However, they will not attack unless provoked during the day.
  • Zombies come in groups.

Things You'll Need

  • An Android phone or tablet with Google Play or an iOS device
