BlueStacks App Player is an Android emulator that lets you use and play Android apps and games on your PC or Mac. The App Player is free, and you can login with your Google account to purchase apps or download apps you've purchased previously for your Android device. You can also install APK (Android installer) files directly into BlueStacks with just a few clicks.

Installing Using the Play Store

  1. Install the BlueStacks App Player program. You can download BlueStacks App Player for from the BlueStacks website, and it is available for both PC and Mac. When installing BlueStacks, make sure that the "App store access" option is checked.
    • BlueStacks may take a while to start for the first time after you install it.
    • You must be running at least Windows Vista or OS X 10.6. You will also need at least Install-RAM to run apps well.
  2. Search for the app. You will need to search for the app using BlueStacks' search tool, located at the top of the screen. Type in the name of the app that you want to download. If BlueStacks can't find it in its own server and displays "No Results", click the "Search Play for " button to open the Google Play Store.
    • Not all apps will be available. BlueStacks is based on Android 2.3, which has long since been phased out. If the app you want requires a newer version of Android, you won't be able to use it with BlueStacks.
  3. Log into BlueStacks using your Google account. After choosing to open the Play Store, you will need to enable the store and log in with your Google account. If you don't have a Google account, you can create one from inside BlueStacks, or you can Make-a-Google-Account. Google accounts are free.
    • Ensure that your computer has a Connect-to-a-Wireless-Internet-Connection.
  4. Select the app you want. A list of search results will be displayed once you log in and the Google Play Store opens. Click on the app that you want to install.
  5. Click the price button. If the app is free, there will be a "Free" button. If the app costs money, the button will display the price instead. Click the price button to Buy-Apps.
  6. Click the Install button. After you have either clicked the "Free" button or purchased the app, the button will change into an "Install" button. Clicking this button will start the download and install process for the app.
  7. Run the app. You can start the app from the Store screen by clicking the "Open" button, or you can start the app from your BlueStacks Home screen.[1]

Installing Using an APK File

  1. Install the BlueStacks App Player program. You can download BlueStacks App Player for from the BlueStacks website, and it is available for both PC and Mac.
    • BlueStacks may take a while to start for the first time after you install it.
    • You must be running at least Windows Vista or OS X 10.6. You will also need at least 2 GB of RAM to run apps well.
  2. Download the APK file for the app you want. An APK file is an Android Package file, and is the installer file for Android apps. Many apps that aren't available on the Play Store are available from the developers as APK files, and old versions of apps can also be installed using APKs.
    • An APK can be Download-a-File.
    • BlueStacks runs a modified version of Android 2.3, which means that the app you are downloading must support that Android version. You can usually find this information on the developer's website.
  3. Double-click the APK file. If you haven't installed any other programs that associate with the APK file type, BlueStacks will automatically open APK files. Double-click the file to launch BlueStacks and install the app. Confirm that you want to install the app, and it will appear on your BlueStacks home screen after installing.
    • You can also drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Set the APK file to open in BlueStacks. If your APK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with.... Browse to the BlueStacks directory, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\BlueStacks\. Select HD-ApkHandler.exe.[2]
