This delightful project will result in scented pencils that are tailored to your favorite scents. These make wonderful gifts as well as being a scrumptious, delicious, and yummy way to brighten up your usual pencils.

Steps

  1. Assemble the needed materials from the "Things You'll Need" section below.
  2. Cut a piece of the newspaper about as wide as the painted part of the pencil is long.
  3. Wrap the newspaper around the pencil and use tape to keep the paper in place if needed.
  4. Mix the lemon/lime/orange juice in the water.
  5. Make sure that the water has a strong scent of whichever juice you're using.
  6. Soak the pencil in the juice.
  7. Let the pencil sit for about two to three hours.
  8. Put the pencil (still wrapped around with newspaper) on a Reuse Disposable Plastic Containers for Gardening or other surface.
  9. Put the plate with the pencil on it in the sun.
  10. Let sit for one to three hours.
  11. Take off the newspaper. You now have an awesome scented pencil. Make as many as you need and present them as a package if you're preparing them as gifts.
  12. Finished.

Tips

  • You can use other scents if you want, such as perfume or scented waters.
  • If you want, label the scents of the pencil.
  • You can use all three fruits at a time.
  • Don't use strips of newspaper; use whole sheets.

Warnings

  • Don't use regular paper, only newspaper.
  • This may not work if your juice isn't strong enough or the pencils just don't take in the scent. If it doesn't, repeat all of the steps above without taking the pencil out of the newspaper.
  • Do not drink leftover juice.

Things You'll Need

  • A pencil
  • 1 sheet of recycled newspaper
  • A lemon, lime, orange, cinnamon, coconut, or grape juice
  • 1 cup
