Notice: Firefox 2 and 3 now include built-in as-you-type spell checkers. The easiest way to get the spell checker is just to upgrade http://www.mozilla.com. It does not allow you to search a text field for misspellings though. You can search in a text field after downloading a Dictionary for Firefox in the language of your choice.

Steps

  1. Go to the Firefox Dictionary List[1].
  2. Select a Dictionary. Select the dictionary you would like to use in your Firefox (you may have more than one installed).
  3. Install Dictionary. Click on the 'Install Dictionary' link next to the dictionary you would like to use.
  4. Confirm and Add. When you have read the page and are satisfied that the dictionary is what you want, click 'Add to Firefox'.
  5. A Firefox pop-up will appear. Wait the three seconds for 'Install' to become interactive and then click it.
  6. Firefox will install the dictionary. You will now need to restart your Firefox for the dictionary to become usable, when prompted to.

Tips

  • These dictionaries are made by volunteers, you can support the development of more concise dictionaries by donating to the developer.
  • If you would like to remove a dictionary you can do so by going to Tools > Addons. Then disable or uninstall the dictionary you no longer wish to use.

Warnings

  • Keep in mind that while these dictionaries are checked by Mozilla they are made by volunteers and therefore they may suggest incorrect grammar and spelling corrections. The best way to counter this is to let the developer know of an error by submitting feedback on the dictionary download page.
