This modification will allow you to use the Memory Stick PRO Duo on card readers that require an adapter. It's very helpful if you lost your adapter or don't have one. It may also work if you push the memory stick in until it reads it. But if not, try the following.

Steps

  1. Cut off about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of scotch tape.
  2. Tape one end (about half an inch) of the tape on to the end of the Memory Stick PRO Duo.
  3. Place the paper clip end to end with the Memory Stick PRO Duo on the tape.
  4. Bring the remaining tape around the clip and tape it on the other side of the memory stick PRO Duo.
  5. Take about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of tape and secure around the memory stick PRO Duo and the paper clip.
  6. Use the paper clip and push the memory stick in, making sure it is aligned with the slot.

Tips

  • You may wish to substitute the metal paper clip for a non conductive "stick" like a plastic knife or a strip cut from a credit card (you can finally make use of those fake credit cards you get in the mail with those offers).

Warnings

  • It might get stuck if you don't tape it properly.
  • Paper clips conduct electricity - if you get this wrong, you could short your card reader.
  • You will take full' responsibility if anything happens to your Memory Stick PRO Duo, or the card reader.
  • Scotch tape produces a lot of static! You may cause ESD damage to your memory stick using this method. Use "Kapton" tape (by DuPont) instead.
  • This will not work with cameras or any other device that requires a Memory Stick PRO.
  • It might crack and break your memory card--there's a slim chance, but there is the risk.

Things You'll Need

  • "Scotch" or preferably, "Kapton" tape
  • Card Reader
  • Jumbo Paper Clip (or alternative; see Tips)
  • Memory Stick Pro Duo
