Cruises can be a very exciting and wonderful experience. While the vacation is relaxing, the preparations beforehand can be very stressful. Packing can add to your stress if you're not sure what to expect. Continue reading to find out how to pack for a cruise in the Caribbean.

Steps

  1. Make a list of what to bring for your cruise. Print a copy of two of this to use before you pack and another to stick into your suitcase. Here's an example list of what you may bring if you were going on a 7 day cruise:
    • Clothes:
      • 1-3 bathing suits
      • Formal attire (i.e. A cocktail dress for ladies, a suit and tie for men)
      • 7 shirts
      • 7 pants/shorts/skirts
      • Pajamas
      • Underwear/Bras
    • Toiletries
      • Soap
      • Razor and shaving cream
      • Shampoo/conditioner
      • Toothbrush and toothpaste
      • Deodorant
      • Sunscreen
      • Comb/brush
      • Hair products
      • Medications/OTC pain medication/motion sickness medication
    • Miscellaneous
      • 1 fleece blanket (optional)
      • 1 pair sunglasses
      • 1 purse/wallet
      • A Camera along with batteries and chargers
  2. Arrange all the items you're bringing on your bed.
  3. Get out your suitcase.
  4. Put the clothes on the bottom you won't need on the ship right away. Check out How to Pack for a Trip and How to Pack a Bag or Suitcase Efficiently for more through instructions on packing a suitcase.
  5. Zip up your suitcase. If you're choosing to lock your suitcase make sure the lock is TSA approved.
  6. Consider bringing a carry on. Put your travel documents along with a change of clothes, electronics, and medications in this bag to carry onto the ship. Do this so if your bag is delayed or lost you will not be without your essentials.

Tips

  • Leave room for souvenirs. But don't bring home too much; it'll only collect dust when you're back. Photos and memories of a great time are the best souvenirs.
  • Limit the bags to two per person. Any more than that and it's a hassle.
  • A small zipper bag is great for toiletries!
  • If you do not want your luggage going underneath the plane, but as carry-on, then get a small enough bag. Check the TSA website to make sure your toiletries will be allowed.
  • A collapsible suitcase is great for cruise ships because of the tight quarters you may have to store it in.
  • Change the list above to fit your needs and duration of your cruise.
  • Bring a list of what you brought so you are sure you do not leave anything aboard.
  • Bring any medication you may need on the ship.
  • Bring an over the door shoe organizer to store toiletries and small items used daily.

Warnings

  • Do not forget any travel documents such as passports, tickets, and confirmations.
  • No irons are allowed on Carnival cruise lines. Any brought on will be confiscated.
